New Favorite Music Babe
Many of you know I’ve been mildly obsessed with a little Aussie named Kimbra as of late. I’ve been referring to her as the “New Esthero” – similar vocal style, but a bit more pop-inspired than what I’m into. You may recognize her from her cameo on Gotye’s beautiful “Somebody that I Used to Know” which has finally surfaced in the US after blowing up overseas this fall. Anyway, Kimbra’s great and all, but I have a new obsession.
This past weekend I went to the Empty Bottle and was introduced to a Western Swing / Folk band out of LA called “He’s My Brother, She’s My Sister.” Wow. Not really my scene either, but overly impressed. Their whole ensamble was energetic, entertaining and extremely talented. Honestly grinning ear-to-ear the whole time. Awesome lyrics and vocal arrangement, impressive stand-up bass, and of course, a slide guitar… Although collectively they were phenomenal, I’ve got to tip my hat to Lauren Brown, their tap dancing percussionist, who in my opinion, stole the show.
From their website: Lauren has been tap dancing since she was 8 years old and has created a new form of continuous rhythm with her feet acting as a hi-hat and snare drum to propel the band’s sound.
It doesn’t hurt that she’s also pretty easy on the eyes.
Anyway, I’m not one for writing music reviews (and it’s not really my intent to “review), so excuse my amateur approach. I’m just writing this for all my pals whole love to pine over super cute and talented music babes. You shouldn’t pass on this. Cleveland folks: they’re playing at the Beachland on Jan 26th.
Tell Lauren I said “hi”.
